When you have a wart that appears it is best to get rid of it as soon as you can. A wart is a virus that will get into the skin, and stay there for as long as it can. Some people do not get warts as their immune system fights them off, but in some cases, the person either has a weak immune system, or the virus manages to stay of the radar. The hard lump is just dead skin; technically the actual wart is below that. Warts can not only come and go on their own, but they can also be spread elsewhere on your body, as well as being passed on to other people. The virus is related to herpes, and you do not want to be responsible for passing that on.

There are a couple of treatments available like salicylic acid for warts and cryotherapy. Each one is listed below with more detail.

Salicylic Acid For Warts

You can buy a lot of treatments at a pharmacy or health store that contain the ingredient of salicylic acid for warts. These include things like paint, medicated plasters, creams and gels. Most of these will take some time to work though, and in some cases anything up to 12 weeks. This all depends on how long the wart has been there, how many you have, and how deep it is. This treatment is very effective though, and it is virtually guaranteed to get rid of warts.

Before you use this treatment though, you need to get rid of as much dead skin above the wart as possible. For this you can use a disposable nail file, do not use a metal one, as all you will be doing is spreading the virus, and if someone else then uses that file, they may get warts. There are no nerves in a wart so it is not painful when removing the dead skin. If when you are filing it, the wart bleeds, then stop and start to apply the treatment. Once you have finished with the file, put it straight in the bin.

It is not recommended to use salicylic acid for warts on your face, seek medical advice for those to ensure no scarring results.

This treatment uses liquid nitrogen and is supplied in a small canister that will last for a number of uses. You freeze the wart for about 15 to 20 seconds, and when you have finished it will be white and frozen solid. In most cases, this kills the virus there and then. The whole frozen area, including the wart, usually heals up after 7 to 10 days. You do not have to file the top of the wart using this method, but if after the first treatment the wart is still there, then do so. If the first application fails, it is because that the virus is deep.

Treating warts is simple; just make sure that you get rid of them quickly, before you spread them elsewhere.
